He enlisted into the army on the 14th December 1914 joining the 2nd Sportsman’s Battalion, Royal Fusiliers. He gave his father, Richard Mills of 9 Wilson Street as next of kin and he is described as 6ft 0ins tall.
He was sent to France on the 15th November 1915 and was wounded on the 13th November 1916.
